PROMINSKO KOLO (PROMINA CIRCLE DANCE)
It consists of two dance steps, šetke (walk) and staračko – colozec (old man's). The dance steps were performed in a characteristic Dinaric six-part rhythmic pattern.
Šetke –a six-part walking step. A few men start singing and then dancing šetke. Then the others join the kolo. Dance formation: kolo (circle), semi-open kolo. Dance line-up: female, male, mixed. Holding each other: when only men do the dance, they put their left hand on the right shoulder of the dancer to their left, and hold on to tkanica (woven belt) of the dancer to their right with their right hand. If the dance is performed by women or men and women both, the performers hold on to each other's tkanica or by the hands.
Staračko – Colozec
After the introductory step, the dancers begin to dance a step called colozec or staračko. When performing this step, the dancers do not sing. This is the original Promina step, due to the specific movement of the right foot towards the center of the kolo.
Step description:
Turn half-left forward, stand on your right foot and bounce off the flor. Land on your right foot, transfer the weight of your body to your left leg, then step with your right foot half-left forward. With your left leg, take a step half-left forward with two vertical shifts, and move the right leg to the center of the circle, 20 cm off the floor. Step forward with the right leg with two vertical shifts, and lift your left leg bent in the knee in front of the right one 20 cm off the floor.
BIRAČE KOLO (CHOOSING CIRCLE)
Dance pattern: usual walk or šetke. The dancers are arranged in an imaginary circle and hold each other's hands. Inside the circle, a boy or a girl walks and chooses a partner. When they choose a partner, they walk together, holding hands, in the opposite direction from the other performers. The couple can also jump from foot to foot or dance step back. The performer that was chosen last remains in the circle and continues to find their own partner.
POPASOVE (ZABACE)
This original Promina dance is performed by one male and two females. It was usually performed at weddings when the bride's strength, endurance and agility were tested. It is performed as a bouncy dance step or in the colozec step without moving the right leg to the center. The boy and the girls hold to each other's tkanica. The boy leads the girls on a circular path and at one point turns sharply towards the center of the imaginary circle and pulls the girls inside. At that moment, the first girl tries to lift the second girl as high as possible with her hand, and the second girl bounces off the floor as hard as she can and flies through the air. Very good dance skills and coordination of the performers is necessary to perform this dance.
